Are there fines for returning items late?

Answer

The Burlington County Library System has eliminated overdue fines on most items! As of July 1 2024, your account will no longer accrue overdue fines. This includes, books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, video games, and technology-on-loan.  However, overdue fines on select library items such as Museum Passes, Borrow-A-Book-Club sets, Interlibrary Loans, and Classroom Kits will still accrue. Items borrowed on the Libby app (ebooks and audio ebooks), and streaming videos do not have late fines as they are automatically removed from your account and returned into the system.

Please be aware that items that are not returned will go into lost status and accounts with items in this lost status will be locked until the items are returned or replacement fees are paid. Cardholders will be unable to borrow more items or download books or magazines in Overdrive/Libby. You can find more information here.

As of November 6, 2023, all items eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed 4 days before their due date (up to two times). All customers are automatically enrolled in this new program, there is no need to sign up for this service! Please be aware that not all items will auto-renew and in this case, fines will be added to your account.  These items include Interlibrary Loans, Museum Passes, Borrow-A-Book-Club, and Tech Lending devices.  Additionally, if there is a request for a certain item, it will not be automatically renewed.  For more information, click here.
